I just got back from that part of town in Berlin where the riots used to take place on May 1st. It seems this night is going to be a lot more quiet even though there are armies of heavily shielded police around, which could be the reason it’s quiet but which also usually is the reason why things get out of hand. A weird world sort of a damned if you do and damned if you don’t.
But what I absolutely loath is the fact that the place looks like a landfill and smells like a big public toilet which isn’t far off on this night. Why do people do this? How come noone has the decency to just go into one of the many open places and use a restroom?
I’m sort of feeling a bit conservative feeling this way, however, if I was a tourist the only thing I could think of Germany is that they’re uncivilised barbarians with no culture whatsoever. And even being German I think that that is the case. Hmm… Sometimes I wonder if I’m gonna be one of those grumpy old men thirty five years from now complaining about everything… hope not even though I still would complain about completely trashing my Kiez.
