But if the counters embedded in the players are accurate, those placeholders are some of the most watched clips in Internet history.\u00a0<em>Hitboy<\/em>\u00a0has amassed 690 million views. Even bigger is\u00a0<em>Surfing<\/em>, which looks like someone butt-dialed a video: five seconds of black screen with some muffled background noise. According to the Myspace counter,\u00a0<em>Surfing<\/em>\u00a0has been viewed 1.5 billion times. That would make it bigger than any YouTube video in history\u2014with the exception of\u00a0<em>Gangnam Style<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So, basically what the music industry has been saying for _years_ is, that music and music videos are\u00a0one of the biggest drivers of traffic on the internet. Yet, the music isn&#8217;t generating any <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennessean.com\/story\/money\/industries\/music\/2015\/09\/22\/all-bass-writer-decries-streaming-revenue\/72570464\/\">revenue<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2014\/feb\/24\/zoe-keating-itunes-spotify-youtube-payouts\">speak<\/a> of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/fusion.net\/story\/33442\/pharrell-made-less-than-3000-from-43-million-pandora-streams-of-happy\/\">anymore<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I personally suspect, that a lot of the &#8220;free culture&#8221; and &#8220;free information&#8221; and &#8220;creative common&#8221; folks around the web are either\u00a0cleverly programmed <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chatterbot\">AIs<\/a> or (more likely) the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/2014\/10\/content-moderation\/\">cheap labor workforce<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0reposting standard thoughts and arguments in order to keep their employers properties\u00a0relevant.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>An exclusive investigation into the bots that will cost companies over $6 billion this year<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Source: <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/features\/2015-click-fraud\/\">The Fake Traffic Schemes That Are Rotting the Internet<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For anyone doing business on the internet, the article below is essential reading.
